Grad Profile: Lauren Gibson, M.A. student



1. Please tell us about your journey toward applying to Baylor's JPR&NM graduate program.

When I began applying to Graduate School, I knew I wanted to move back to Texas and attend a larger university with a stellar Public Relations program. From the beginning, Baylor University stood out and quickly rose to the top of my list. As I learned more about the JPR&NM program and the university, I quickly found that Baylor was a perfect fit for me. I knew that if I was accepted into this program, I would be receiving a quality education from a Christian environment. This was a driving factor behind my decision to choose BU. Baylor already feels like home and I couldn't be happier with my decision.


2. What has particularly attracted you to Baylor’s JPR&NM graduate program?

The thing that caught my eye was the course selection the JPR&NM program had to offer. This program offers an array of classes that enables you to specialize in a specific area of study. For me, I knew I wanted to concentrate my studies in Public Relations, and because of this program, I am able to pursue an education and career in PR. 3. What are your long-term goals?

Upon graduation, my plan is to work as a Public Relations Specialist for a PR firm or work in-house for a company. Areas of interest include Public Relations in the fields of healthcare, hospitality, and sports.

4. Your favorite part about being a grad student in this program:

My favorite part about this program is the community within the Journalism department. One thing I love is the class size. They are smaller and more intimate, so you are able to get to know your professors and fellow students on a more personal level.

5. Advice to students interested in joining the JPRNM program:

Don't be afraid to ask questions! Whether you reach out to faculty or current graduate students, make it a point to gain as much information as you can about the program. Asking questions about the programs you are applying for can help you feel confident in your decision, which will allow to choose the program that best fits your needs.
