Please tell us about your journey toward applying to Baylor’s JBR&NM graduate program.
In 2013, I had the chance to accompany my husband during his journey doing his master’s degree in the United States. After four months, I enrolled in English language courses for one year. I expected to apply to universities after completing this course. Unexpectedly, I returned back home in 2015 due to some certain circumstances. Thus, I thought completing my graduate study in USA was not my destiny.
I always wanted to complete my studies in mass communication. Especially, because I had experienced working in the field in PIFSS in Kuwait. However, the governmental company I had been working for back home is considered as one of the best in my field in the governmental sector. Unfortunately, I did not find my passion there. The strict governmental environment constrained my ambitions toward my mass communication passion. There were a lot of forbidden instructions about PR activities and advertisements. Eventually, I found myself searching among private sector public relations and advertising companies in Kuwait.
It turned out that the academic career is my destiny after all. In 2017, I have accompanied my husband again to the United States to assist him in achieving his Ph.D. ambition in Electrical Engineering. At that time, I started searching for different universities hoping to join one as soon as possible. Being in the United States is the best opportunity for me to earn a higher degree, especially because we don’t have any similar programs for higher education in mass communication in Kuwait so far. While I am already here, staying at home is not considered as the best scenario for my case. I wanted to invest my time doing something good. After applying to a couple of universities, Baylor university gives me a generous sponsorship offer just at the right time.
What has particularly attracted you to Baylor’s JPR&NM graduate program?
Baylor university is a well-known academic facility in Texas. In addition, Baylor is located in a reasonable distance from my current residence, which encouraged me to visit the Baylor campus. All the faculty members I have met in Baylor’s JPR&NM were welcoming and ready to offer help whenever I need it. I liked how people there made me feel like home. I am glad to be educated by elite teaching faculty. I believe there are so many universities offering a very good educational program. However, not all of them offer a supportive and friendly environment where students can be creative and innovative as Baylor did. I am honored to be a part of the Baylor University family.
What are your long-term goals?
My passion toward searching in public relations and advertising is endless. I hope to continue my Ph.D. degree in mass communication and invest my research in teaching and to enlighten the next generations.
